I visited the Honey Brim house today

I was on my way home from a weekend road trip, and I decided just to drive home via that neighborhood.

The house is still sad.  But the mountain laurel is in full bloom and has grown into a full and robust hedge.  The rose bush at the corner of the house is hilariously overgrown -- thriving!  The apple trees are also overgrown, which is rather astounding, as I pruned them carefully last year.  The elderberry bush in the back corner is gorgeously tall and full.  The waterfall was silent, though, even in the rain -- I didn't get close enough to figure out why.

The front yard is ripped apart, obviously in conjunction with some septic/leach work.  I am grateful.  The swimming pool cavity has some very large piles of dirt right next to it, which means it will be filled and obliterated.  Someone has been keeping the lawn mowed, and it looks good.

There is a threatening 8x10" note on the door warning of the legal ramifications of trespassing and informing the reader in capital letters that this house is NOT FOR RENT.  I ignored it.

The daylilies are getting ready to pop.  The herb garden is terribly, terribly overgrown.  The mint patch is weedy but the bee balm looks promising.

I hope this house gets another chance.  I hope someone fixes what's wrong with it, and perhaps even notes all the fixing I did that got it in better shape than it had been.  There were a lot of love and a lot of beautiful memories in that house, even among the sad and ugly memories.  I want to see it fixed, occupied, adopted by another family who will love it despite its flaws and take care of it.

Is that too much to ask?  Perhaps.

I cried.
