insurance matters

I hate anything that deals with paperwork.

I don't like thinking about anything involved me being sick.

Therefore, figuring out health insurance is not my favorite thing to do.

And with Massachusett's new, well-intentioned law, I have to deal with a slew of it. In case you haven't heard, it requires everyone to have health insurance. This takes care of a main problems with health insurance--that people who cannot afford it and don't need it urgently don't contribute to the system.

To ensure that everyone can afford health insurance, it is offered subsidized for those who can't afford it (like me!).

But the system doesn't think I'm eligible. Y'know, being unemployed, I obviously can afford to pay over $200 a month.

(I know that health insurance is necessary. I don't need to be reminded of that. But so is food, and I'm currently eating cake frosting for lunch.)

I'm still not sure what the difference is between MassHealth and CommonwealthCare, except that I'm not eligible for the former. I know this because of the requirements listed, and they sent me a nice letter. They sent this letter when I applied for the latter (they use the same form). And the last person I talked to said the computer said I wasn't eligible for CommonwealthCare either.

Also, the term 'commonwealth' is silly. Bloody Massachusetts.

I wrote all of this while on hold, waiting for the third person to talk to (and share my SSN with).
