Indulge my curiosity for a moment, if you please.

What exactly do we know about... well, anything in this place? Why the crowns? Why the temples? Why the mist? Why these Fair Folk? What, if anything, works on them?

The basic answer to everything you just asked is probably 'Magic'.

[Cheerfully.]

And now the answer of someone who has thought about it?

If you think and come up with something that doesn't in the end basically point to large energies of magic and omnipresence, keep me informed.

I've long lost interest in trying to work out the 'rules' of this place myself but I'd still like to know if someone else works anything out.

How, by the by, does the answer 'magic' fit the last question? Have you used some and proven it to be unequivocally so?

Well, I don't have any of my weapons here, so whenever I've had to fight anything around here I've used fire magic on a number of them. Seems to be lucky enough that most of the things I've dealt with don't care for being burnt. When there's been enough light, I've used that too, but doubtless if you want to get technical, I am using the magic as a solid weapon.

Just seems to me that if something around here has enough magic to put you into a deep sleep, you need a stronger magic to fight it before it does.

And the creatures don't come back when that happens?

Let's see. I can't tell you if its the exact same ones re-spawning, or if its merely more of the same species turning up when it comes to the same smaller Beings around here. I'd prefer to think the latter though.

When it comes to the bigger things, like the singing women or boys who turn into horses to drag you into the water, I'm more willing to say that we've found ways to fight them off, but not fully destroy them yet.

Mm. And there are places they won't go near?

They don't go in the forge, and I've never known of any in the Temple either.

Has anyone looked into why?

You'd have to ask around, because if anyone has I don't know about it.

I'm not adverse to a bit of poking and proddling!
