...since I posted much of interest regarding my life. So what have I been up to lately? Well...I'm not in the mood for much of a mega-wordy post (and I can hear the sighs of relief as I type) but here's a few things that have been done lately.
A few weeks ago England played Russia in Russia and failed to win. A couple of my friends went and just about managed to avoid being beaten up by Russian thugs. I'm glad I wasn't there 'cos being near violence is really not pleasant. One of the reasons I won't be going to St Andrews to watch Villa on Sunday.
Went to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to see The Police perform on their shameless cash-in reunion tour. It was on 'Black Friday' where all day the radio people were saying that it was going to be the worst day for travelling in the history of the motor car. The journey, needless to say, absolutely sucked. We basically got into the stadium five minutes before they came on stage having completely missed Mr Hudson and the Library in support. But Sting and his mates rocked verily and a splendid time was had by all.
At some point Villa lost to a frighteningly good Man Utd side, drew with a moderately competent Bolton side and beat a fairly woeful Derby side. Our football fortunes are looking OK but not sparkling and, as previously mentioned, it's Birminghm City at St Andrews on Sunday - a game we MUST win.
Work has been OK. So far this week I've been at our Bentley shop implementing some database changes which should make life easier for the staff there. It's by far our busiest shop (they do over twice as many prescriptions as our second busiest) so anything we can do to save them either time or money is a very good thing. I've also been rolling out my wonderful 'Takings File'. Basically you input the raw data from the daily printout in the order it appears and the spreadsheet does all the necessary calculations and formats it for the accountants. The real magic comes in a simple batch file which saves a backup and blanks the spreadsheet ready for the following week. It's simple but it means I don't have to teach people who know nothing about computers (and want to know even less) how to do it manually.
At the weekend we had a primary school reunion. This had originally been scheduled for the weekend of the Rugby World Cup final but was postponed when England defied expectations and qualified. In the end only five of us could make it to the rearranged date but it was a good first step at reestablishing contact with a group of people who haven't seen each other for nearly 20 years. Hopefully we can arrange another date in the new year when more people can make it.
Finally a bit of sporting triumph to lift the nation from defeat to South Africa in the Rugby, Russia in the football and Finland in the Formula 1. Joe Calzaghe won the boxing to unify the three super middleweight belts last weekend managing an extraordinary turnaround after it seemed he was destined to failure. Maybe now he'll get the international attention he deserves. He's a 10-year world champion who is unbeaten in his entire professional career; his last defeat coming as an amateur in 1990. He now wants to step up a division to fight American legend Bernard Hopkins.
So there you have it. That's what has been concerning me lately. Sorry I've been quiet but free time and inclination to post have been absent. Plus, as previously posted, I'm playing catchup on 6 new TV series!
