Two weeks of freedom pass by so fast

Well I'm alive, for those of you who may have been wondering. No one? Oh well...

Since I got back from America life has been a little hectic. The flight back was great - the beds in Upper Class are sufficient to sleep upon, I discovered, and duly did so. Managed around 4 hours on a 6 hour flight and arrived feeling fresh as a daisy. Didn't need any matchsticks to prop my eyes open on the drive back from Heathrow and, in fact, was still going strong at midnight when I decided to call it a day and head to bed. Hooray for total jetlag avoidance.

Back to work on the Monday. Tuesday I spent my day off lounging around, shopping for groceries and compiling a Halloween quiz in which some of you partook. Wednesday night I went round to Tom and Dan's flat for a dinner of souffléd macaroni cheese which was, I must admit, delicious. Thursday I had to leave work at lunchtime because my back had decided to remind me of its existence in a particularly painful way. Went to the chiropracter who worked her miracles sufficiently to allow me to go to the Vale Fireworks at Birmingham Uni. And particularly good they were too. Lots of big bangs and pretty lights set to music from various films. Friday night I went to the Priory Bonfire with Tom and Dan. Whilst the firework display was well-stocked with the requisite bangs and flashes, it did rather suffer from a lack of music. Music really does make fireworks much better. It was nice to be there anyway. I used to go every year with friends from school but it's been over 10 years since I last went. On Saturday Tom, Dan and Graham came round for some somewhat tamer fireworks in the garden, preceded by a sumptuous feast of nachos, chilli tacos and chilli fajitas. Sunday I went along to Villa Park to watch Aston Villa beat a rather poor Blackburn side which appeared to have come for a point but with no idea of how to get one. Thus endeth week one.

Tuesday night I went with some people from work to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the Rep. Very good it was too. At times the diction of the girl playing Scout left a lot to be desired but otherwise it was played well. Wednesday night was the Liberal Democrats AGM at which I somehow got myself voted chair of the local party. Go me. I heard a rumour that Villa were playing Chelsea in the Carling Cup that night but we lost 4-0 I don't know anything about that. Friday night I went to the Royal Watan with Steve, Neal and Neal's mate Paul. Had a delicious Balti Boti Kebab with Garlic Fried Rice. Saturday, the highlight of the week, the aforementioned Neal, Steve and Paul, plus various other members of Neal's extended family, boarded a minibus to Cheltenham for the Paddy Power Gold Cup. I was willing to lose ten quid on each race but managed not to. I won 3 races and lost 3 races and ended up about twen quid down on the whole day. Neal and Steve, jammy cunts that they are, managed to back Exotic Dancer in the main race at 22-1 and thus ended up winning enough money to cover the day, including beers, entry, transport and the evening meal. Which was taken at a very nice Italian in Cheltenham called Francos. I had Tournedos Rossini which included one of the best steaks I have ever taken, and washed it down with a bottle of red wine. Not a cheap meal, at over 40 quid, but worth every penny. Sunday morning, somewhat worse for wear through alcohol, I drove to Heathrow to collect the parents after their extended US voyage. Thus endeth week two of my complete personal freedom.

Tonight I see Muse at the NEC. It will be amazing. Feel free to be very jealous.

going out, live music, friends, football, libdem, fireworks
