Wile working at Harmony House for (8 years at a independent record store) I became friends with quite a few people. There were many strange characters who entered my life from time to time. One person in particular was a woman named Eve. Eve was tall, thin and full of life. She would dance and sing in the store and make us laugh. She also could be overbearing and had a bad addiction to pain killers that was a result of a real bad car accident. I can remember times when we would talk about old punk clubs like Bookies, Todds and, Traxx. She was able to see bands at clubs that I was too young to get into. I can also remember her being so loaded that I had to ask her to leave. At one time she asked me if I was avoiding her because she used to be a man. I said no and that I would never treat her like that, I also told her that I was gay. After that we had a closer bond. Now I never spent time out side of work with her except for the occasional party at mutual friends homes, but I thought of her a a friend. Flash forward to two days ago. One of my co-workers at Trader Joe's who worked with me at Harmony House asked me if I heard about Eve. I said no and then was told that Eve had died. I was told that a friend had found her and that no one knew how or when she died. I know that her health was failing towards the end, She had to stop driving because she was legally blind.
I guess this is really effecting me more than I thought. Eve was, is, a courageous person. I will always have much respect for her.
