I've noticed that I've pretty much abandoned this LJ of late other than to use as a dumping ground for cross-posted reviews and stupid memes. But that might not be what you all tune in for (does anyone actually tune in here?). There may be a couple people who used to check things out here to see how I'm doing or what I'm doing without having to go to the trouble of actually talking to me (which I don't begrudge at all, it's pretty much what I use my friends' blogs for myself).
Well, the reason I haven't done much blogging about my life of late is that there really isn't that much to report. Days flow together like water, and would have very little distinction between each other were it not for wrestling on Mondays and Veronica Mars on Thursday. Other than that, I do the same damn thing everyday, which is to say not much. The freelance research job I got turned out to pretty much be a farce, but I clung to the idea that something would come from it too long. I should've bailed on the whole deal at the first sign of trouble, but I was too eager that something would come from it. I still think I'll get some money from the deal at some point in time, but that won't negate the fact that the whole deal was shit and a complete waste of my time (okay, I guess the money will make this only a major waste of my time, not a complete waste of my time). The company actually contacted me last week to see if I'd be interested in doing some fact-checking for them. I was non-committal, but said that I may be interested. Mostly, I'd be interested in doing something in order to put a timetable on when I'll actually get paid for what I've already done for them. I figure if they contact me for more work, I can get into a solid discussion over when the work I've done for them is over. Other than that, I'm not going to do anything more for them without a proper agreement with terms and time tables over payment.
I should go out and get a real job, but we're going on vacation from August 6-15, so I figure there's no point till we get back. I applied for a census job that starts after that, so maybe that'll happen for me. It sounds incredibly boring, but pays just under 12 bones an hour, and doesn't last too long. We're going to Vancouver to visit with Kim's extended family, which will be a first for me (visiting her family, not going to Vancouver). I'm not really looking forward to that, but not because I don't want to meet her family. The problem is that in adult small talk, somewhere in the first three questions one can expect to asked "what do you do?". So that'll be an ego-destroying experience I'll get to re-live a good dozen or so times. Yay! It's not a knock on her family, it's just how adults communicate. Hopefully I'll get real good at dodging the question with my patented charm. Of course, my non-answer will then lead to a discussion about school, where they'll ask "what kind of work does one get with a history degree?". That whole deal is going to be torture.
We'll be dipping down to Seattle for a couple days while we're out at the coast. That should be cool. It's been awhile since I've been there. We're catching a Mariners game on the 8th against the Minnesota Twins, which I'm really looking forward too. The last time I went to a Mariners game was in the Kingdome, strangely enough it was also against the Twins, so I'm really looking forward to seeing Safeco Field. It's one of the nicer parks in the majors, whereas the Kingdome was one of the all-time worst.
I want to buy at least three new CDs for the long drive ahead. I'm currently considering Coldplay's X & Y, The Dandy Warhols Welcome to the Monkey House, Stars Heart, Sleater-Kinney The Woods, The Kills No Wow, and Feist Let It Die. I guess I should make a mix or two before we leave as well.
Even though I haven't written much on here lately, that doesn't mean I haven't been writing much lately. I've just be doing so in a more structured format, choosing to write reviews instead. In addition to the one's I've posted here, I've also written a lot of reviews in the
topfive_reviews community that I'm a co-moderator of. I generally post a review every day there. Me and another mod,
twistedyouth spent a lot of time re-working the layout over there (the layout was his idea, then he and I fine tuned it together through an IM discussion), so that's taken a good amount of time. I recommend you click on over
there and check it out if you're interested in reading more reviews, or joining yourself if you're interested in posting reviews or top five lists on pop culture topics. Some may think we spend too much time with it, but it's a fun hobby that keeps the writing and critical thinking skills sharp. Anyone who does any writing says it's key to do some everyday, I just do this instead of keeping a silly dream journal.
Anyway, that's all I got for now. If you found this post really boring, then you know why I haven't been posting much of late.
