Portland invests millions in bike/ped infrastructure

From an email today... w00t!

Dear BTA Members,

Good news! On Thursday the Metro Council voted to approve a record-setting allocation of flexible transportation dollars to bicycle and pedestrian projects. Accepting the recommendation of its Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation, the Council allocated nearly $14 million to trails, bikeways and sidewalks! (See the list of projects here.)

Since November of last year, the BTA has advocated publicly (at hearings, and through our vocal and active membership) and privately (in phone conversations, meetings and emails with committee and council members) for spending 1/2 of the available funds - $21.6 million - on active transportation.

With your help, and leadership from committee members and the Council, it worked! And then some!

Now, if we can ask you to do one more thing to close this nice chapter of our advocacy agenda, there are a few people who deserve our thanks for making it happen (besides members like you, I mean). Please look over the JPACT roster below and email one member and say "Thanks!"

Our back-room advocacy and public testimony wouldn't mean a thing without active, smart members like you. Thanks for your support!
