I Just Wanna Dance With You

That's all I've been thinking of Lauren lately. Our tango classes are going well, we are progressing at a mind-blowing rate. This week we worked on milongas and drilled check steps until they were (mostly) effortless. It was actually fun dancing to some songs - my brain was not so preoccupied with getting everything right that I could enjoy the dance.

We also danced for a good three hours on Sunday night, working on blues. I gave her a private lesson that lasted for two hours and then we kept dancing until past midnight. She's so much better at blues, it's a real pleasure to work and dance with her. The best part about teaching someone (especially your girlfriend) to dance is that you can get them to dance the way you like. We also went back over some Fox-Blues that Lucky taught us and practiced some of the aesthetic of Ballroomin'. We were tearing it up. Then we mellowed out by the end, doing Slow Drag to some real down-tempo energy songs. I've never had such a great time doing Slow Drag with someone. Granted, I haven't done it since I developed a more solid balance and definite axis (both of which are rather critical), but still... our weight shifts are so seamless. I think the tango learning has influenced it greatly.

Joshua's second set at Tuesday Blues rocked my dance shoes. He played some sick music. There was this jazzy vintage song I absolutely must get from him.

Wednesday evening we had the DJ meeting. Went really well. With only six people present, it had a real intimate feel. Brenda joined us and offered some very helpful feedback. She is a font of experience and knowledge and learning. I felt like we worked out some fantastic ideas at the meeting. I'm excited to see how Saturday goes, and to see where we go with these ideas.
