Scrabble tournament-related question

If somebody was to host a local-to-you charity NASPA-rated Scrabble tournament where 100% of the money taken in went to the charity, if instead of paying an entry fee, you'd collect pledged donations (with a minimum requirement of, say, $25 to enter), and all of the prizes were of donated merchandise and none of the prizes were cash, would you play ( Read more... )

Yes, if it was a charity whose purpose I agreed with. I would put more effort into raising money for causes I care about more. Feel free to unscreen.

Totally depends on the charity. If it were one I didn't care for then I'd shun the tournament rather than appearing to be passively in support of it. If it's one of those with very high overhead, like those AIDS rides sponsored by Tanqueray, then I'd avoid it. If it were fund-raising for sending someone who needs the money to Worlds, then I'd be all for it.
