My spring semester at UB has gotten off to a very rough start. I'm guessing the fact that the temperature outside is in the low teens and dropping further this week doesn't help. Today was exceptionally tough because I had four classes in all, the first one starting at 8 AM, and the last one ending around 10 PM with breaks in between averaging about an hour and a half. I was feeling varied degrees of sleepy, cold, hungry, logy, and uncomfortable from the afternoon classes well into the evening's film seminar. Yesterday was a bit easier with only one class and enough time to run to replenish a tiny bit of energy, but the first evening back on the job at the call center was long, slow, and aggravating. Between work, the classes, and the considerable amount of work all of these classes promised, I'm feeling worn out and overwhelmed after only two days of school.
And yet, I stay on the side of optimism. The first days of class, which center around the class syllabus, and frequently mention the homework and papers that will need to be done, have so much talk of class work that the thought can be more overwhelming than the actual routine of classwork, I'm hopeful that I'll settle into the routine of all of my classes soon enough, and hopefully figure out a way not to feel exhausted so quickly. Same goes for the call center. It doesn't look good now, and the fact that I'm working four evenings out of the week is a bit tough to deal with, but I'm sure once I've settled in and spend enough time with my favored co-workers, I'll be back into full swing before long. And once I start getting paid, a lot of things will feel easier. The fact that I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for one meal and subway fare is probably just adding to the stress of the first week.
There's hope for a lot of good to come out of this semester as soon as I'm prepared to take it in the right direction rather than feel like everything is piling on top of me. I have three more days to go before the weekend, and plenty of homework to finish before next week, so I'll need to make sure I do the following: Pick up all of my class books, get out my thickest skiing jacket and suit up for the sub-zero weather, find ways to avoid energy crashes, and get rest. I definitely need rest. Really badly. So...goodnight.
