How do you register a phone to Google Voice (GV) at a remote cabin where a clunky analog phone line is ALL you have?
no broadband, no cell coverage....
You have to be by the phone at the same time you are on the internet GV web page to answer the phone and key in the 2 digit code the web page gives you to confirm the addition of the phone line.
no internet. no added phone line.
Here is what I have to do.
1) get my iphone and a 2nd cell phone.
2) plant a friend next to the wireline phone in my cabin
3) climb a mountain or go 2 miles away to what we call the "cell spot" in the middle of nowhere where by the vagaries of RF propagation, we can get a measly 1.5 bars of signal.
4) try to connect to the web with the iphone and get onto the GV web page (2g EDGE connection, slow, weak and can't do a phone call at the same time)
5) Try to add the wireline phone to GV
6) get the 2 digit confirm phone from the web page.
7) using the other cell phone call your friend back at the cabin on the wireline and tell them the 2 digit code
8) hang up and on the iphone click "ok" on the "call to confirm" screen
9) wait until your friend gets GVs computer-woman call asking for the 2 digit code.
10) go home and have a beer
Yesterday none of this worked since my AT&T signal would not sync up. Later (after my friends left), I realized it was because my truck engine idling was causing enough interference. try again in 2 weeks.
