We left 125 chamberlain at 5:40 saturday june 18 and hit the road for charlotte. We didn't have time to eat breakfast so we decided to stop along the way for something. The drive was nice and easy, cruising down I-40 listening to u2,jack johnson, and some vanilla sky tracks. It was a relaxing drive with good conversation as always. Aroung burlington we had to refuel, which at that point she realized that she had left her wallot back at my house so as a precaution I got behind the wheel. We arrived safely at the airport at 8:30 and immediately met up with my dad and brothers. Unfortunately my dad got paged and had to zip back home to perform a c-section so I said goodbye and got in line for my ticket. The line moved fairly fast and before long we were saying good byes and since she had no wallot I gave her some gas money just in case. We all met up at gate D7 for our flight which gave us plenty of time to catch up.
I got to laugh and joke around with evan, aaron, drew, landon, sam, woody, james, mandy, kayla, and other friends I hadn't seen in a very long time. It was great catching up on all our lives. I wondered into the duty free shop and found some cologne that I promised myself I would buy on the return flight.
Our plane ride was relatively uneventful. I sat with aaron and mandy which prooved to be entertaining and fun. It gave me somebody to joke around with on the flight. hehehe evan sat between two old people who just fell asleep and snored. We got a lunch which was suprisingly good and got to see the movie, which was hitch. It was alright, nothing too special, but since I had the window seat I enjoyed that more than anything else. It was no baraka or vanilla sky :)
We arrived in san jose around 1 pm costa rica time and 3 pm E.T. The humidity was immediately unbearable and we were forced to wait in baggage and customs for 2 hours before boarding the buses which would take us to our host familes in vargas araya and other neighborhoods. About 15 minutes into the bus ride a tremendous thunderstorm broke out and it seemed to follow that trend for the rest of the trip. We gradually said goodbye to people as one by one we were dropped at our host families. Mine and landon's family was very nice but there was a definite cross-cultural barrier. I was exhausted and went to bed at 9 E.T.
