This happened 3 weeks ago but i though i might as well share the experience with everybody. I went home to celo for a weekend to do some hiking with my buddy gabriel cade and his fiance sarah. Friday driving up to celo it was raining and looked like it was going to be a horrid weekend. i called up gabe friday night and wondered if he was still up for the hike. he said he definitely was so we planned to meet at 12:00 at the COOP in celo. We arrived at the coop a little early so i went inside to visit with asia who happened to be working there that day. When gabriel arrived with hopped in the saturn vue courtesy of cbs survivor and headed towards colbert's ridge on this amazing day. 70 degrees and sunny! Gabriel brought his dog neku who could not have been anymore awesome to hike with. We did some catching up since we had not seen each other for a couple months. how classes went, soccer, girl situation etc. gabriel passed his 22 hour semester of biochem and all that hard stuff and is taking 4 classes each summer session in order to graduate in august. i have no idea how he does it, one class was a physics class which met in the morning at 8 and they have homework to do before they meet again at 4. this is everyday, mon-fri. that is hard work for you. it made me feel very ashamed for complaining about my classes.
We had some discussions about drug use in college, our college experiences up to this point, how being on survivor changed his life and allowed him to do soe much. his marriage plans for september, and how him and sarah are going to thailand for 6 months to teach english to budhist monks after they are married. i am so jealous! i did learn some interesting facts about survivor, one being that before you are allowed on the show you have to sign the morality clause which basically means that cbs has full rights to make you appear as horrible, stupid, mean, etc as they see fit. Also, after they get voted off they go stay at a resort for the remainder of the filming and get sent on all these lavish trips, like a week hiking trip in new zealand. even now gabriel says that once a year or more they have a survivior reunion with everyone on the show and go hiking or in this case they went rafting on the new river.
so many amazing things to experience in this world and he is getting to see and do so much. i hope one day i can experience half of the things he has. i'll try to, i know costa rica is a start.
it is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the end
