Crazy. Things have been...
Well, I'm not sure whether I'm becoming entirely too dis-kosher to be stood... I mean, last night I 69'ed with a Mexican immigrant who wanted to see what it was like with a guy... and then I got my non-purple clothes out of the dryer and started reading
cmpriest 's Fathom for an hour before my roommate came back...
Notice how I slip the random stuff you'd never think you'd read in between the two other things? XP
But I am satisfied--both with Ernesto and Nia. Y'know, one thing that I consistently admire about Priest's work is her way of developing character through dialogue and her ever-practical approach to things. I also appreciate the local detail, something I'm always taking notes on for my own work...
But back to Mr. Rodriguez... well, what can I say? Not that far from East L.A., and he was rather cute...^_^
Now, I know what you're thinking, or at least, what a few other people have been saying to me--and don't worry, I'm playing safe and hopefully soon I will get tested for the first time (yay!)... and anyway, I'm not really having that much sex... I mean, if we want to get technical here--but right, I'm trying not to T.M.I. people anymore, aren't I?
You'll get enough of that from the new collection, anyway. It's all about sex, pretty much, and I already have a lovely title picked out for it, from an Edna St. Vincent Millay sonnet: Until This Cigarette is Ended. I have a few poems written already, and a lot of notes lined up, so stay tuned...
Actually, obviously it's more than about sex--I'm actually starting to write about gender now, and there's the old themes of self-doubt and an admiration of everyday beauty, but also an arising sense of a need not to lose control, to hold back. So I guess I've finally gotten to the point where I can get more personal, psychological without sounding crappy. But as always I do this through the lense of the theme--last time it was capturing moments as seen through windows. This time it's about capturing moments through inter-personal encounters. (If you read the Edna St. Vincent Millay sonnet, it makes it very clear what I'm going for--I'll prolly post it as time goes along...)
But what of Images, you ask? Well, I'm still working on it--and I know I keep on saying this, but it should be almost done. Considering that it should mostly be made of older poems, I need to write these last several poems right quick, seeing as I'm moving so speedily away into new territory, poetically.
For those who are interested--and for my own reference--here's what I have left to write:
--"Writhing Bodies" (new draft)
--"Next to You" (reworking of two earlier poems)
--"Study of a Squirrel" (detailed notes)
--"And Now Here I Am..." (reconstruction)
--Untitled poem about snails in three parts (reconstruction of one part, new draft of two)
--and a mystery poem I've needed to write since last summer, actually...
And there's obviously other poems which will need some rewriting, but other than that, I think I have about 20 solid poems...
I think there should be somewhere between 23 and 28 poems all together... but I'm still not sure yet. I will keep you updated as things coalesce; my goal is to finish this in the next few weeks, once and for all...
