487: Wow, Busy Day!

Aug 06, 2008 00:53

So, it was one of those days that didn't feel busy, but I sure feel like it was way productive at the end...

I started by attempting to make my room habitable again whilst washing almost every article of clothing I own (speaking of which, I need to get some hangers; I don't have nearly enough for even half of these shirts). Then, got to go to Deseret--even though Cat and Chad backed out; just went with sister and her babydaddy in their new/used car.

I was a bit disappointed, considering I'd heard it was the thrift store to end all thrift stores in this area--it certainly is as big as a supermarket, but maybe they had bad stock this week, 'cause I didn't see any clothes I liked, really. BUT, I did dig up some really good steals in the books section. Behold:

--Practically new copy of The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I've been borrowing it from Mike, and just finished it. But it's one of those books I think you really need to read several times, and it was much good. Plus: see how nice the parchment-style cover feels!
--Newish copy of The English Patient by Michael Ondaajte. I really loved his collection of poems, Handwriting, mostly about his native Sri Lanka. I've heard amazing things about his novels, and this promises to deliver delerium-inducing gorgeous prose.
--Old (but dirt cheap) copy of Cat's Cradle by Margaret Atwood. Loved The Handmaid's Tale, and still want to read her post-apocalyptic novel (Onyx and something?), but figured this one would be worth a shot.

Then went with my mom to get her new fan put in her car, and then finally was able to call Aunt Linda--it'd been well over a month (am also trying to call other similarly neglected loved-ones). It's always good talking to her, even if my increasing progressive radicalism might sometimes be at odds with her traditional libertarianism. Talked about how riding when both my sister's babydaddy and my mother causes me to fear for my life--but for different reasons.

My mother's car is still falling apart (it really is an old lady, as my mother says), and my sister's babydaddy drives like he's in a drag race, and doesn't slow down quick enough for my comfort, so that it seems as if he's constantly about to ram into the back of cars. Too aggressive! My sister is just a bit impatient, but drives much more smoothly otherwise...

Anyway, my Aunt wants to get together with me and my Mom sometime, go out to eat or something. Probably so we can convince her to move to an assisted care living facility. I guess what one might crudely call a home, though it sounded like a much sweeter set-up than what she's got going now. I try to explain this, but I'm outnumbered here; it'll be good having some support, especially from my Aunt, who I look up to in the areas of sharp-as-nails toughness and a sharp practical eye.

In more mundane news, seeing as I ran out of my shampoo-conditioner combo, I've broken out that Aussie conditioner again. Last year, I felt it made my hair feel oily, but damn! This time... My hair hasn't felt this clean and sparkly in a while! I also found a bunch of my hair-clips while cleaning my room... With one of those in my hair, the side where the bangs are combed are sticking up in a crazy, feathered fashion. Want to get the other side similarly feathered. Maybe get it trimmed another inch, or down just below my ears...

Ah, the money issue threatens again... I'd love to get a professional haircut (for once), maybe get these damn eyebrows waxed... I suppose I don't have to replenish my toiletries at this point, but it would be nice... Well, the ticket and cellphone are most important. I got the old cellphone from SBD (Sister's Baby Daddy); here's hoping it doesn't totally drain me getting this mofo reactivated. *sour look* (It's pretty cool, though, actually...)

Okay, those are my various updates for today! In the morning, I am walking down to visit some thrift stores on Fruitridge in the hopes of procuring some cool vestements, hopefully writing some more, and then to Club 21 that night for some gay dancing with
perversedmind and whoever else. Wish me luck!
