well that was pretty scary...
It started to get pretty bad about 12:00 or 1:00 am. Me and my dad didn't board up our windows or anything which ended up being pretty stressful. It was a very powerful storm. The winds we're so strong we were sure our back sliding glass doors were gunna get blown out. Me and my dad brought out our blankets and pillows and camped out in the hallway. Neither of us slept a wink. We kept hearing this really strange noise that we refered to as the 'elephant noise' because thats what it sounds like. an elephant trumpeting. My dad was scared it was the aluminum siding getting ripped off the house but it actualy turned out to be our neighbors detached gutter rattling. When the weather had finally calmed down and the sun had finally come up, we took a look at our unrecognizable back yard. A very large portion of our neighbors tree fell into our backyard. So big, it takes up about a 1/4 of our back yard. Tons of other tree branches landed in our back yard as well. Oh and every single pecan came off our tree and landed on our yard which actually makes it kinda hard to walk back there. The front yard doesnt have too many large limbs but its completely covered in leaves and sticks.
Driving around Houston I actually feel pretty lucky... There are people that have whole trees uprooted in their lawns and siding and shingles have been ripped from their homes. Some of the buildings downtown had all of their windows blown out... computers flew out the windows. People are scrounging for gas and food. A very limited number of grocery stores are open right now and this morning there were people lined up at the Shell and 610 and Westheimer who had been waiting there since 6 o clock yesterday and they still haven't gotten gas yet. They havent even turned on the pumps yet. It's pretty bizarre to see this huge and great city in shambles.
Galveston/Surfside/Freeport are all extremely fucked up. Beach houses leveled... historic buildings gone...
No one is aloud on or off the island without special clearance from the mayor.
We got power back pretty quickly compared to some people... It came back on at about 10:00 on Saturday night. There is still about 2 million people without power.. Now I'm just waiting for the water pressure to come back up because I am in desperate need of a shower.
Oh and there is also a retarded curfew in effect for all of Houston. 9pm-6am. Pretty annoying...We will see if people abide by it....
Well I hope everyone made it through safelyand Ihope everyones power and water gets turned back on soon!
