[Andy's basement apartment] Slumber Party

Apr 29, 2006 18:42

Andy actually cleans up her little basement apartment a bit for Han's visit. Shoes are tossed unceremoniously into a pile in the closet, clothes are thrown in the hamper, and vacuuming is done. She has a few bags of chips set out on her wobbling little coffee table and she folded her blanket and hung it over the back of her couch. She's also placed ( Read more... )

Han pulls up outside around the decided time, but it takes him a while to work up the nerve to get out of the car. Eventually, he gets out, grabbing the bag with his pajamas...well...the bottoms that he got at the Goodwill and a T-shirt. That's the closest thing he could get. He also grabs a pink box of cookies off the passenger seat before closing the car door with his foot and making his way to the door. Sliding the bag handle up his arm to free up his hand, he knocks softly, gnawing his bottom lip.

It's good that she resisted the call of a comfy blanket or she'd be asleep now. Andy perks up at the sound of knocking, but takes a minute of unnecessary adjusting and hair pulling before she can will herself up the stairs. You'd never know it from the smiling, cheerful way she answers the door.
"Yay! You actually came. I was afraid you might come to your senses and realize I have very silly ideas. It happens sometimes." She grins and ushers him in. "Enter freely, and of your own will."

He grins a bit weakly and nods. "Sure I actually came. I don't say I'm gonna do somethin then not do it. Uhm...sorry I'm kinda late." The grin gets a bit wider as he comes in and sees she's actually in pajamas. "Nice PJs. I...uhm...I got some too. So there's no naked to worry about. An' I brought cookies." He holds up the pink box and nods again.

"Hooray for cookies!" She smiles wide and makes her way carefully down the stairs, once the door is locked. "Those can go on the table. I'm glad you managed to get some pajamas. I tried to figure out some to loan you, but there's nothing around here that would work out size wise." Andy looks at the bag in Hannibal's hand and then thinks. "You can change over by my bed..." She points past the couch to a set of two oriental folding screens or, rather, what sits on the other side of them. "or, if you want, the bathroom's just up stairs and to the right." She points up the wooden stairs in the center of the basement that lead up into the house. "Don't worry. I sent my mom away for the night. I convinced her it was finally time to go visit her friends that live in DC."

Han makes his way down the stairs carefully as well and puts the box on the table as instructed. "Yeah. They're not real great, but it's all I could get, y'know?" His eyes go from the screen to the stairs and back. "Uhm. I'll change over there...I don't like stairs much. But it's good to know where the bathroom is." And good to know there aren't any lurking moms about. He's still pretty nervous about the thought of meeting anyone's parents. He wanders off behind the screen, bag clutched tightly in his hand.

He comes out several minutes later, looking a bit awkward. The pants are a bit big and ride rather low, exposing a scar that curls up over one hipbone. He's also not really pleased with his decision to wear a T-shirt; his arms are quite thin and scarred. He gives a wan grin and wanders over to the couch, flopping down. Maybe if he acts like nothing's there, she'll act like that too.

"Hey, I'm not going to bitch about free cookies. Stuff tastes better when it's free." She sits on the couch and curls up in the corner to wait for Han to get changed.

When Hannibal finally returns in his PJs, Andy giggles quietly. The awkward hang of the pants manages to be amusing and a bit attractive all at once. Her eyes linger on him a bit long, but that's mostly because she usually can't see his actual shape and how thin his limbs are and it's a nice change. The scars don't go unnoticed, but she won't ask yet. There's certainly no sign of revulsion whatsoever. She finds strange things attractive.

"So, I put DVD's in three piles. I've got stand-up, movies, and TV shows." The first pile has Dennis Leary's No Cure for Cancer, George Carlin's You Are All Diseased and Eddie Izzard's Dress to Kill. The movie pile has Pirates of the Caribbean, Labyrinth, Legend, The Princess Bride, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Time Bandits, The Transporter, Pitch Black and Snatch, as well as complete collections of Nightmare on Elm Street and ( ... )

The lack of revulsion is encouraging and a bit surprising. He gives her an almost shy look and curls into the opposite corner. Maybe this won't be so bad. It's nearly like home...except that Andy is way cuter than Muds...and not related to him. Yeah.

He's pretty impressed by the collection of DVDs on the table, it's quite a bit more than the little stack that he and Muds have managed. He looks through them, really going more by the pictures on the the covers than the titles printed there. "Uhm...how about Robot Chicken? That's pretty good." He wouldn't mind watching anything that's there, really. But Robot Chicken is funny...and obviously designed specifically to suit his attention span.

"Cool. I love this show, but I think I'd love anything they put enough pop culture references in. Plus it has action figures in it. So, that's a bonus." The shelves above and around her television are filled with various action figures and happy meal toys.
Andy turns on the TV and a half-inch rainbow and static band goes across the top of the screen. The rest of the picture is ok, though. She puts the first DVD in the player and comes back to curl in her place on the couch. She takes the box of cookies and sets it on the couch between them as she begins checking out the selection. Anything without obvious fruit fillings or high amounts of almonds qualifies as good.

Han's never had much along the lines of acton figures, but he's still amused by them walking around and talking. He also doesn't get all of the pop culture references...but yeah, talking action figures. So he nods in agreement and gets a bit more comfortable, tucking his feet up under him.
The TV makes him grin. It's nice to know that other people have shitty TVs, though the picture is still better on hers than the one at home.
The biscotti has almond slivers, but other than that, the cookies are clear of anything that would make them bad. Han doesn't really like biscotti, but he thought maybe she would. Mostly, though, they're just regular cookies: chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal and iced sugar cookies. Han selects a chocolate chip and nibbles at it, watching the screen with his head tilted. ...He should've brought his blanket.

Andy eats biscotti, but she eats it strangely. So that will wait. It's always good to save up looking like a freak for when it's too late for the frightened party to want to drive home. For now, peanut butter cookies are exceptionally awesome. She eats cookies absurdly slowly, taking very small bites. They last longer this way.
It was only a matter of time before the blanket was needed. She pulls the throw down from the back of the couch and unfolds it. It's mostly blue with stars, phases of the moon, and a large sun woven in orange and white. There are a few holes in each side and the fringe is missing sections, but it's still ok looking. She tries to stretch it to cover both of them, but when that fails, she carefully scoots over to rest against Han and pull the blanket over them. "I could get a bigger blanket, but I'd have to get up."

Han also eats cookies absurdly slowly, so it doesn't strike him as odd. He probably wouldn't be freaked out by the biscotti either. After all, she hasn't seen him eat chicken.
He grins and rests his head on her shoulder. "Wouldn't want that, you're already all settled." And getting up after being settled sucks. He snuggles down in the blanket and goes back to his cookie. This is pretty nice.

"Yep...settled and comfy. She leans he head on his and pulls the blanket up tight under her chin. It's warm and there are cookies and Han is good to lean on once she shifts enough not to have any of his sharp angles or joints poking her anywhere vital.
She watches the show and laughs a lot. Sometimes she buries her face against Han to muffle the loud, awkward sound of her laughter. She doesn't like the way it sounds, but there's not much that can be done.

He gives her a sideways glance every now and then, when she muffles her laughter. It's really not that bad and he doesn't quite understand why she's embarrassed by it. Ah well. Girls are weird. Hannibal, on the other hand, isn't much of a laugh-out-loud sort of guy. He chuckles softly at the parts he finds funny and the parts he doesn't get are over soon enough.

The quiet sort of way Han laughs and the times he doesn't worry Andy. She wants him to be having a good time and she's forever afraid she's boring people. Whenever she thinks she can get away with it she watches his face to see if he's happy or not. Reading his eyes and mouth for signs of his emotions. She likes reading people, and the more she likes a person the more she'll study them.

Han is, in fact, having a good time. He's just conditioned not to be very loud about it. He's probably not terribly easy to read, but his eyes crinkle slightly at the corners when he's happy. The crinkled eyes are getting a bit sleepy looking, but that's not because he's not having fun. Han tends to get sleepy when he's just sitting and not moving around a lot.

The subtle way Han displays emotions is kind of fascinating. For someone who doesn't do much to test herself, Andy loves a challenge. If everything about him was on the surface she would probably lose interest fast. In contrast to his, her reactions to things are loud, glaring and obvious. Her emotions are almost theatrical; blown out of realistic proportions to be understood from far away. This makes it so much easier to hide how you really feel. It's like a magic trick, people look at the obvious and ignore the discreet.
There is something tremendously lazy and comfortable about just laying on the couch and watching the tv. The only thing keeping her more awake is the need to get up and change discs every hour or so. It's kind of fun hunting for the right position to lay on Han again once she's able to sit back down. "We only have to stay up as late as you want to." She smiles and turns a little to kiss Han on the cheek.
