shit i've done since late in June and July

Aug 22, 2007 01:37

uh, i typed this up a long time ago but never got around to posting it. just kind of a way for me to track things i've done this summer, whether they've been interesting or not.

Beverly Hills Concours d'Elegance : Car show on Father's Day. Rodeo Dr in Beverly Hills. I went with Zoe's family. I thought it was actually kind of cool, her dad knows a ton about cars and would always explain the historical significance of every car to me and exactly what makes it so special and etc. etc. I'm not a car buff but there were a ton of cool cars there. A Rolls-Royce made out of teac wood from the 30's, a bunch of motorcycles from the late 1800's, some car made by Nikolai Tesla that is all electric but super fuckin fast.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery: Just kind of poked around here. Saw Johnny and DeeDee Ramone's graves and obviously some other famous people too. Met a rabid Ramones fan from Chicago who was probably like 48 and demanded we took a whole roll of film of him in front of the Ramones graves.

Olvera Street: Got there sort of late and I've already seen it before, but had a custard-filled Churro.

Pasadena Mika Miko party: Went there for my friend's going away party. Showed up around 10 and she had already left drunk. Mika Miko and Abe Vigoda were supposed to play, but I guess they forgot or something until somebody reminded them around 1 or something. It was too late to play a real set, so they brought out pots and pans from the kitchen (to be used as drums) and an acoustic guitar and a saxophone (instead of a PA). it was pretty fun.

allergies/rash/hypothyroidism: I've had some weird allergy to something basically all summer, which has resulted in a super annoying rash almost all over my body. It's gotten a lot better but there's still remnants and little flare ups from time to time. Started out on my lower stomach and spread to armpits, arms, back, legs, and peaked all over my face. Now there's just a couple spots on my lower stomach, elbows, and legs. Went to the doctors a whole bunch this summer to try and have them fix it, but they were never able to. Ran a bunch of blood tests and they thought I might suffer from hypothyroidism, which also makes you fat and grumpy. And I got some other tests back saying I'm pretty close to having diabetes. I don't really know what that means even so I'm just kind of ignoring it for now.

Knotts Berry Farm: Zoe bought me a ticket to Knott's Berry Farm and we went to Knott's. It was awesome. There weren't any lines for any of the rides, so we could basically just sit in the front seat on all the rides and stay on for as long as we wanted. The new ride "Sidewinder" is the shortest ride known to man, I swear. It's not that great. Ghostrider rules and will always rule though.

Crass shirt: Made another Crass shirt for summer. Now I have a really huge (16-17" or so in diameter) Crass stencil. Give me a shirt and I'll spraypaint it for you. If you want acrylic paint (better looking) give me a buck or two for time/effort/paint. Or you know, doesn't have to be a shirt.

LA plans: I've been thinking about moving to LA a lot, but I'm still kind of interested in moving to SF. Since my girlfriend lives in LA, this might seem like sort of a cop-out move, but the more time I spend up there the more interested I get in the history of LA/SoCal in general. I've never really been that interested in history before, but as of late I'm constantly thinking about history and how things came to be and Zoe and I spend a lot of our free time going to different historical points of interest in the area and it's been great! Also - Sina moved to Hollywood/Wilcox so I think I'm just going to leave a bike up there and use that to get around LA. I feel kind of shitty either staying at Zoe's parent's house or on Sina's floor. Wouldn't mind having a place to my own.

gangsta party in back of Anie's pickup truck: okay so i started typing all this stuff a long time ago and am kind of fuzzy on a lot of things or why I would include them here, but a bunch of us went to a gangsta party in some city. I had no idea where we were because a group of us all laid in the bed of Anie's pickup truck and we were all totally wasted and it was actually pretty sketchy.

Nick Carter of BSB at Ralph's: I was in line at the Ralph's by Zoe's house around midnight the night before 4th of July and in front of us was Nick Carter and his sister or something stocking up on last minute barbecue items, I guess.

Zoe's mom on Sharon Osbourne show: I saw an episode of the Sharon Osbourne show and Zoe's family was on it. They were saying Zoe's mom is a packrat, I guess a lot of it was staged but I don't think it was as staged as Zoe's mom claims! They have a ton of stuff.

6th street warehouse fight: Ugh, I'm kind of over talking about this by now, but basically I was in the pit watching Japanther at 6th street warehouse and as soon as the band was done playing I see this kinda bigger Mexican dude that didn't really fit in point at me. He rushes over, gets me in a headlock and starts punching my face, I start hitting him back, fight gets broken up (lucky for him!). I'm kind of laughing about it just because it was so unexpected and I was kind of drunk, but then the guys that own the venue grab me and are like "Hey you have to come hide back here for a bit, get in this closet!!!" and I'm thinking "?!?" you know? They end up not putting me in a closet, but just taking me to the back dirt lot area behind the venue and tell me to wait there for a little bit, because the guy that just punched me and all his friends have knives and they wanted to cut me up or something. I guess they thought I suckerpunched one of their friends, but I'm not the type of guy to do that so whatever. So we were out in the backyard for at least an hour after the show was over, I wanted to go home, they wouldn't let us leave. All my friends ended up breaking bottles, grabbing 2x4 wooden planks, pieces of sharp concrete, whatever we could find. Zoe was scared and I went to hug her and stupid me shoved my broken bottle into her back pretty deep. (this was a few months back and she still has a pretty big scar). There was blood everywhere and of course everyone was kind of freaking out. Somebody ended up taking my keys and pulling my car up front and a big mob surrounded me and threw me into the backseat. Ally was driving and I think she ran a couple red lights in an effort to get away from the knife wielding dudes. It was pretty intense but the whole thing felt really unneccesary.

Paul McCartney at Amoeba - uh I kinda saw Paul McCartney at Amoeba. I happened to be at Amoeba while he was getting ready to perform, I didn't see it or anything but the area was still pretty nuts.

Henry Rollins: Saw Henry Rollins speak at the Hammer Museum. It was part of a Conversation series, where he's forced to have a 2 hour conversation with somebody he doesn't know much about. They matched him up with some girl from the Dresden Dolls. She was a very poor speaker, he was a very good one, so it was basically just him talking for a couple hours. He had a lot of interesting stories about traveling around the world and shit but after a while I wouldn't have minded getting out of there. Kind of what I expected.

Bryan May's first show: Bryan May's band played at Avalon Bar and they were actually pretty good. Don't know how to describe them really but I was pretty impressed.

Fucked Up show: Went back to 6th street warehouse and saw Fucked Up with Carry the Casket and some other bands. Zoe and Daniel Epheron both stage dove and that was really funny. I'll put some pictures at the bottom. The show ruled, one of my favorite shows of summer for sure.

Sunday July 15: Tried buying a couple sparks from Ralph's and my card got denied. Out of cash and applying everywhere. Applied for like 10 different positions at Whole Foods, 7 different banking positions, Discovery Science Center, Trader Joe's, a bike mechanic, a Field Naturalist (which i was completely underqualified for but got an interview anyways) and some other places. The only place I had an interview at was to be a field naturalist in Modjeska Canyon/Black Star Canyon area. I was really looking forward to this job, and although I was totally underqualified I still interviewed anyways because it's basically exactly what I was looking for. I froze up bad on the interview though and didn't bullshit at all and didn't get the job. Just got a call today from Trader Joe's asking me if I wanted to work there/interview so I'll call them back tomorrow. Not really excited about it, but I guess it'll be good for me. Keep looking for other outdoor jobs in the meantime.

California Science Center & Air and Space Museum: Went to the California Science Center / Air and Space Museum by USC. I had a lot of fun at both. The California Science Center had a display on different phobias and some of the shit was actually pretty scary. Exhibits focusing on fear of tarantulas, fear of electric shock, fear of sudden sound (gunshot), and fear of falling.
