First of all: ELEANOR! I was thrilled when she showed up because when she and Cyrus moved to The Abroad (was it Switzerland? I can't even remember) I thought we'd never see her again. I was also pleased that her return facilitated a bit more information about how Blair is unhappy and not fitting in at NYU, because I was beginning to think that the writers had just abandoned that whole storyline thread - so I'm guessing they're going to have her move to Columbia, or something? I mean, I don't know how easy that is to do, but I guess if you're Blair Waldorf, you find a way, right? And at least the Blair-invites-hookers-instead-of-friends plotline didn't end the way I thought it would (press discover hookers at EW show, EW ruined publicly once again thanks to Blair's inability to make decisions like a rational human being) and Blair blackmailing the department store boss out of loyalty to her mother was, dare I say it, a nice touch. I loved the hint of a smirk on Eleanor's face when she told him to "go back to Salt Lake" - Margaret Colin played that line perfectly.

I was relieved that Jenny seemed to be genuinely trying to turn over a new leaf in this episode, and that the writers remembered (again, oh, the continuity!) she used to love designing, and while Rufus is still kind of an idiot, at least here he was trying to do something positive for her, and it seems to have worked out. I hope it sticks, but I have a feeling that all that's really happened for her is that she's got a huge crush on her Nate in shining armour (and I can't believe Gossip Girl herself didn't use that pun, rather than the super-lame "damsel in a dress") which is going to spell problems for Serena. Then again, it's not like Serena had much to do in this episode, so maybe that's a good thing for her?

I wasn't terribly interested in Vanessa's attempts to spice up her relationship with Dan (although Jessica Szohr looked super-hot in her Rear Window get-up), nor did I think that Dan's solution to the whole "stuck in a rut" insta-problem of hers was terribly effective (amounting to little more than "we do things my way, and it's okay because I say it is"), but hey, they both seemed happy enough at the end, so maybe they can just indulge in folie à deux for the time being.

Oh, and perhaps this is the end of Chuck's mama drama for the time being. I'm getting a bit fed-up of the whiplash in that storyline (she's his mother! Or is she? Yes, she is! Or is she? Yes, she is! Or is she? repeat ad infinitum) so I'm hoping they've just settled on "yes, she's his mother, but she's a terrible human being" and left it at that, especially since the whole "she's in love with Jack and was working for him all along!" angle had more holes in it than a road in Wandsworth. I'm sad for Chuck that he got played out of his business, but I think this might be good for him as a character, as he tends to be more effective when he's got something to prove than when he's just coasting along. I do kind of miss him interacting with his non-Blair friends, though - we haven't seen enough of that over the past couple of weeks. Still, it's a minor gripe.

It's a shame the ratings keep plummeting in America - I'm enjoying it more right now than I have been in ages.
