Open Mind, Open Heart

Ron stepped through the Floo and nearly tripped over his own feet in shock. Pansy Parkinson (at least he thought it was her) had her wand drawn and pointed directly at Hermione's chest. A near hysterical Hermione, he belatedly realized, tearing his gaze away from the shapely brunette.

"Merlin's blue balls, Granger," Parkinson said with a blatant roll of her eyes. "Sit down and shut the hell up."

Hermione gaped, Harry looked fully prepared to hex Parkinson, and Ron... well he burst out laughing at the second shocking situation of the day. "You'd be the reason I was warned to be open-minded then?"

"Ron?" Harry turned, wide-eyed and clearly affronted that Ron's reaction to Parkinson as their 'welcoming committee' wasn't what had been expected.

Ron just shook his head. "Harry, after finding out that my sister married Malfoy and Zabini, not much else is going to shock me."

He turned, with what he hoped was a friendly smile, to Parkinson. She looked amused.

"Ronald," she said in a low, husky tone that surprised him once again. It seemed that everyone had changed since he, Harry, and Hermione had been away.

"Pansy." He felt as if he'd been slipped a Ton Tongue Toffee. Pansy Parkinson was tall and willowy. Her top was cut just low enough that he was certain his mum had 'tsked' over it. The clingy blue material afforded him a tantalizing view. He didn't miss the sly expression on her face as she sashayed across the room, holding her hand out to him. He took dainty hand in his, squeezing it lightly.

Pansy's smile widened and she let her hand lay in his just a bit longer than was proper, her big blue eyes sparkling with mischief. "Luna stepped out for a few minutes. Tea has been set out in the kitchen if you three are interested."

"Why are you here?" Harry demanded.

Ron glanced over and barely bit back the urge to roll his eyes. Hermione's head was on Harry's chest and it was obvious that she as still quite upset. Harry was cradling her, running a hand up and down her spine slowly. Ron rather thought that Harry needed to open his eyes and admit that it wasn't Ginny he was interested in any longer. Turning back to Pansy, he said, "You don't have to answer him. Mr. Lovegood may be eccentric, but he's as paranoid as Moody. If you're here, you're trustworthy."

Pansy tucked her hand in the crook of his arm. "How about you, Ronald? Are you hungry?"

Not for tea and biscuits. As she led him away, all Ron could think was that he should have been more open-minded years ago if the willowy brunette on his arm was anything to go by. Interesting didn't even begin to cover this situation.
