easily the best singaporean play i've seen all year. mostly because it's the only one i've seen (and will be seeing) all year, but still.
too lazy to go into a full in-depth review, which is in a way reflective of my political views. i'm not really political apathetic - just politically lazy.
but if anything, i'm just ever so slightly less apathetic now, thanks to the play. one can't really critique the script when 90% of it is based off interviews with such a diverse range of people, but i must say it was a wonderful idea. the depth of honesty, insight and diversity really impressed me thoroughly. the little skit before the intermission was side-splittingly hilarious, and-- oh! i have to mention the last bit of the play. the cast brings onto stage lots of chairs - mostly white, but a few red (representing the seats in parliament). the chairs are the plasticky reflective kind. they arrange the chairs parliament style, all the while in semi-darkness. (a slide show plays in the background. rock remix of the persuant etc. etc. legal thingy is playing). and then as the song finishes, BAM. full lights on. since there are so many white plasticky chairs, the blinding effect is immediate and overwhelming. very, very cool.
but the acting was faaaannnnnntastic. great commitment, great deliveries of the insane range of races and accents.
so good.
