the danger of books
will leave you with midnight
epiphanies and the most empty stomach, making you the-opposite-of-cry, where the tears can’t quite make it
out your eyes and they slither
backwards down the insides of your nose instead
because the ink says love can fail for seventy years and still
yield something lovely
& your favorite punctuation is the question? mark. & don’t you think seventy years is an awfully long time?
