Aiiiggghht. Did I mention yesterday that I was sore and had a couple bruises?
Well, I still have the bruises and the soreness. And I'm going to make it my mission to bum medication off of Bill, to try and annoy him for endangering my life.
(Before I continue with the story, I'll say that of everything up there, hiking seemed like the least evil activity on the board; I didn't know how intense it would be.)
So, anyway, I'm the third one to attempt to hop on this giant rock, with Bill sort of helping me up. Well, I slip in my lovely Kangaroos and end up dangling over some water... holding only onto Bill's hand. (And trusting people with my physical well-being is not comfortable.) I was dangling above some water that flowed down over some sharp-lookin' rocks. Translation: If I fell, I woulda probably been carried downstream and broken some major bones. We stopped trying to go that way... Well, I was shook up for awhile until we got to the stream that Bill was so ecstatic for us all to see. His bright idea: to go swimming. So a bunch of us go swimming but 3 of us just wade around. We decide to hike back up an easier way than we came. We get to the road and notice signs warning us to A) to stay on the trail always, and B) that swimming is dangerous. *shakes head* Bill is a crazy crazy man. (Just found out today though that he helped on Howard Dean's campaign in the Iowa primary... fascinating...) Anyway, we went on another hike. The sign before that path (we stayed on the path religiously this time) mentioned that numerous accidents had resulted in serious injuries or death. Sam, our third counselor (and the one who's responsible for periodically making sure that Samantha, Lai, Deanna and I are not dead or anything for the 2-week program) was the one who noticed the sign. So, Saturday was interesting. Bill kinda creeps me out, but since weird people fascinate me, he is... interesting. The thing is, he's pretty intelligent; just a bit crazy... and talk about taking a risk with 8 high school students (somehow only girls signed up) and two other counselors... and Bill's just saying how great nature is...
His bumper sticker reads: Love your mother and has a picture of Earth on it.
And (I found this amusing; a lot of us find the hiking near-death experience funny now - Deanna, Samantha and I were laughing about it last night) he said this to me after my escape from serious injury. "You sprang from Mother Earth but we will not let you return to it today." *sigh* Some funny (comical and strange) people here...
