Today we are planning to plant the little one's birth tree. It's a Japanese Maple, variety: Shaina. It's a bushy dwarf variety, with fine burgandy colored leaves. Last night we bought the pot that it will live in for the next few years, until we settle down in a house of our own. We bought the tree nearly two months ago, on March 1st during our first plant-buying nursery trip of the season. We had looked at trees earlier in the year at Brukhard's. But, since it was still winter there weren't any leaves on any of the trees. When we went to Armstrong's to buy our first plants of the season, we noticed that they were on sale and that they had smaller/cheaper ones than at Brukhard's. Since we aren't planning to put it in the ground for a while smaller is better. We spent a lot of time looking in the Japanese Maple book that they had and at the trees that they had there. After careful examination and discussion we narrowed it down to three varieties. We then lined up the three trees which we were debating between and place her on the ground in front of them. She then crawled to that one. We tried it again with the same result. Coincidentally, it was the same tree that she had grabbed onto when we were looking at all of them before the selection process. When I initially saw the Shaina I had a feeling that it would be the one. But, was then distracted by all of the other pretty varieties there. Funny how my gut instinct worked on that one.
Anyhow, today at 4:41 pm (the time that she was born) we will put it in the ground with her placenta. Until yesterday it had been living in my mother's freezer. But, she brought it over with her when she came over to visit. It is now in our freezer. I feel like we should have a special ceremony. But, I can't think of anything that isn't super-cheesey. I think that like her birth it will be small and simple. Anyhow, the end of this post is very short because I'm tired and need to go eat. But, I wanted to finish it before running off. :)
Also, in case you didn't know today the little one is 9 months old!!!! *whoo hooooo* :)
