Squint
McRaider
Summary: “Why can’t you admit that just because you’re immortal doesn’t mean you don’t age!”
Author’s Note: This is inspired by the fact that our beloved John Barrowman does actually have glasses (reading as far as I know, I’ve never seen him drive with them, only read or sign with them) and because I recently had to get a new pair myself.
Rated: PG-13 (some innuendo)
Also because he's just so darn cute in them!

Ianto stepped into the office, about to argue with Jack for the fifth time of the week about the older man doing his own damn reports. It was like hedidn’t want to do the reports. Not that Ianto blamed him, but really, this was getting ridiculous. Ianto had his own work to do, without doing all of Jack’s as well. However he was a step away from Jack’s office when he noticed it. He hadn’t seen it before-perhaps because he wasn’t paying attention, but Jack sat at his desk, leaning back in the chair with a paper held at arms length. He looked to be concentrating.

Last time Ianto had checked, Jack could read easily most language-the exception being Welsh which didn’t even make sense, since Jack had lived here since the 1800s. But Ianto felt a smirk cover his features as he realized if Jack were a normal man he’d be in his early forties. Most normal humans needed glasses in their late thirties and early forties for reading.

“Jack, could you tell me what this says?” Ianto questioned thrusting the paper rather close to Jack’s face.

Instantly he reeled back slightly and tried to snatch it out of Ianto’s hands. Ianto snapped it away quickly, then placed it back close to Jack’s face, forcing the man to huff and try to wave Ianto off. “I’m making you an appointment, sir.”

“For what?!” Jack bulked.

“Glasses."

“I don’t need glasses.”

“Of course not, sir, I know lots of people who hold paper five feet from their faces to read it. I even heard once the further away you hold the piece of paper the bigger the print gets-though that might be a myth-“

“Shut up.”

“Jack.”

“Ianto, I don’t need glasses.”

Ianto nodded. “Right, well we’ll see what the doctor’s say, won’t we?”

“Bastard.”

“You’re just upset because if you get glasses it means I’ll stop doing your paperwork.” Ianto replied as he walked out of Jack's office.

It was two days later when Ianto and Jack stepped into the doctor’s office. Jack sat down in a huff, looking a little more than annoyed at Ianto for dragging him here. “This is stupid.” Mumbled Jack.

Ianto shook his head. “Jack, stop being so stubborn, I’ve been watching you for months, you’ve been doing this for a year easily-“

“Ianto I-“ Jack leaned closer and hissed ‘immortal’. “I don’t get bad eyes.”

“Obviously you do-“

“Captain Harkness?” a nice enough looking nurse called.

“Want me to go back and hold your hand?”

“Shut up.” Jack stood and followed the nurse into a small room with tons of equipment. He wasn’t sure why he was being so childish. He’d told the Doctor upon leaving that he aged but couldn’t die. Surely that meant some things would go bad. Jack closed his eyes and said a small prayer to whoever was listening that he didn’t lose another certain ability that some men lost with old age.

When Jack stepped out fifteen minutes later he held a white piece of paper in his hands. He was far sighted-he needed reading glasses. He hated it when his lover was right. The nurse allowed Ianto to come back and soon Jack had bought some simple looking frames, comfortable and flattering for him. The nurse said they would call when the glasses were ready, and the two men went on their way. Ianto was driving and trying not to laugh all the way back to the hub.

“Why can’t you admit that just because you’re immortal doesn’t mean you don’t age?” Ianto laughed finally as they pulled into the garage.

“I’m over 100 years old! I don’t die, why would my eyes go bad!”

“They’re not going bad Jack! In fact consider yourself lucky! Most people are in their forties by the time they need reading glasses, you made it to 170!”

“You’re enjoying this aren’t you?”

Ianto chuckled. “Kind of yeah.”

Jack got out, slamming the car door shut. Ianto managed to catch up with his lover just before the man stepped into the tourist’s office. Grabbing Jack by the waist, he grinned and wrapped both his arms around Jack, taking a moment to be unusually affectionate in public. “You know Jack; some guys think glasses are sexy.”

“Really?”

“Uh-huh.”

“So-if I get glasses you’ll sleep with me?”

Ianto chuckled as he pressed a kiss to Jack’s lip. “I’ll sleep with you if you get glasses. Though to be fair I’d have slept with you if you didn’t get them. I just would have made you do your own damn paperwork.”

Jack chuckled as he dove in for another kiss. Neither man parted until someone overhead yelled get a room. As it turned out, a week later when Jack got his glasses-he did indeed look very sexy in them, and Ianto agreed to keep the glasses a secret between the two of them.
