You Tube Question

Anyone who knows me knows I don't have TV. Couldn't afford it. Have been watching things on the internet. People told me to check out Youtube to watch some shows and they are there HOWEVER they are horribly grainy. Everything I've tried to watch has been thus. Is this the norm? Or do I need to adjust my settings or something?

I Have Windows Vista if that helps.
