Lot's of Japan-related stuff
WARNING! Because I need practice, all Japanese will be written in Japanese; but I will provide a romanization in parenthesises for the readers who don't know Japanese.
I got the BEST little Japanese minidictionary the other day. It conatins no romanji; only かな (kana) and かんじ (kanji) and english.
I was looking through the dictionary, trying to find まんが(manga) and I came across まもる (Mamoru), which is the name of うさぎ (Usagi)'s boyfriend in Sailor Moon. Turns out it means "to protect or defend." Which is completely appropriate, as he spent the majority of the first 2-3 seasons saving her ass because she was completely incompetant!
About a month ago, I was in Half Price Books and I was just looking around at the foreign language section. I had been fortunate enough at another store to find a Charlie Brown comic book in Japanese (I got it of course) and was hoping to make another good find. I happened upon two volumes of a very interesting looking まんが. I had no idea what the title was; but I could tell that it was about dancers. I didn't have any money, so I wrote down the title, hoping I could find it later (or at least figure out what it meant). Well I finally figured it out this morning! (Practice sentence: まんがは舞姫テレプシューラです。) The まんが is 舞姫 テレプシューラ by 山岸涼子. From what I can see, the かんじ means "Dance Princess" and the romanized かたかな (katakana) are "terepushuura". I don't know what that might be.
And I saw a cool まんが at Waldenbooks. It was called Dolls; but I can't find it in Japanese. And I would rather not get the translated versions.
I leave in about 3 weeks! YAY! But I don't have a host family yet... *is sad* But 咲乃ちゃん (Sakino-chan) gets here on the 11th! So that'll be fun.
