Life with two kids: Not the month I expected

Sep 27, 2021 14:50

A month ago I posted about everyone moving up a step.

It has not gone according to plan.

Gideon was supposed to go in to nursery on the 23rd and Jane and I were supposed to spend that week enjoying time for just the two of us, as we had possibly the last week of just the two of us holiday for the next two decades.

Instead he was bounced from nursery early afternoon that day because he was just too upset. And the next day. And the next day. And then on Thursday they said to us "Look, this clearly isn't working, how about we go back to just mornings for a few days, try to get him some positive experiences, and build back up from there?" Which we agreed to try, starting from Friday. That night he was very distressed, and didn't settle until we gave him calpol. At which point we worked out he'd been teething all week. However, having told them we'd try a few days of part time we stuck to it, and over the next few days he adjusted really well.

And then Sophia had a day home when they shut her room after a positive lateral flow test. But it was open the next day, which was a relief.

And then three days later another staff member in her room tested positive.

And then two days after that they had another staff member off and closed her room for a week. So I spent 5 days taking her to things in the morning, with Jane doing things with her in the afternoon.

And then we started the week where hopefully everyone would be in nursery and Jane and I could actually do our jobs. And on Tuesday night the norovirus happened (see earlier post). And we just spent five days where nobody got to do much except dash back and forth to the toilet, accompanied by whichever child they were holding at the time.

*This* week, hopefully, will be the one. The golden week where everyone gets to be where they're supposed to be, doing what they're supposed to do!

In other news the transition to not napping during the day has gone pretty well and seems to be pretty much over. She spent three weeks staggering home like a drunk - on a few occasions I refused to let her use her scooter because she would have been a danger to herself - but now she's just mostly a bit more tired in the evening. She goes to sleep at 8:30 now rather than 10:00, which is nice, as I get some time to do things around the house.

And he has, now his teething has temporarily paused (current tooth count: 1 and three halves), taken to actively enjoying nursery, and doesn't cry at drop-off any more. As she cried every morning for the first three months this is rather a relief! Original post on Dreamwidth - there are
