34 Year Old Man Realises Nothing Will Ever be as Good as Necromunda (tags: games life funny ) The BBC are making the Gaiman/Pratchett novel "Good Omens" into a TV show. I really hope it's not shit. I haven't been able to bear any of the Discworld dramatisations.

What didn't you like about the Discworld adaptations?

They have always felt like pantomime to me. Much like the Hitchikers Films, they seemed to be cobbled together from one-liners that the fans had become attached to, and scenes which they couldn't bear to cut, lacking the intelligence of the original books.

This is how I feel about the later Discworld books to be honest. It's mostly established characters doing their standard schtick and overstating obvious jokes, lacking the intelligence of the earlier ones.

Unseen Academicals felt that way to me, and it very-much felt like the way the Wizards books in the series went.

Carpe Jugulum was where it started going downhill for me tbh. It got worse as they went on. Unseen Academicals was just sad to be honest, it read like rushed fan fiction in places.

Mmmh - aye. The Discworld adaptions I've seen (Hogfather, Going Postal and possibly AN Other) I've not loved and I've not loved the Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy films either. I'm not sure I can put my finger on why.
