I am slowly replacing all of my artefacts with bits.
I bought a 12" tablet which dual-boots between Windows and Android.
I haven't bothered to boot it into Windows yet, because I bought it as a comic reader, and I've been busy playing with that. It happily read the CBR, CBZ, and PDF files I already had.
And then I set up Comixology, bought the first book of Grant Morrison's run of Batman (Batman and Son), and suddenly found myself 75 pages through it.
I can tell that this is going to end up costing me a small fortune. And saving me a lot of shelf space. At 12" diagonally, it's almost exactly the same size as my trade paperbacks, which means that they will be able to join the books and DVDs which have now gone to charity/second-hand stores. Not this week, and there are some that I'll want to keep for lending purposes. And my Absolute Editions are magnificently huge and gorgeous, so they aren't going anywhere. But I suspect I'll have issues justifying paper copies for things I don't love.
Which means that just-about the only things I have left on my shelves that aren't in some way replaceable by digitised versions are the board games. And even then it's because I like sitting at an actual table to play them in person. Several of them can easily be played online with friends, if that was my preferred game-playing method. Once giant digital tables become commonplace they'll be off too.
Part of me thinks "But then my walls won't be covered in books! Whatever will I do with all of my wallspace?
And then I remember...art.
(Plus, of course, it's going to take a while to make the transition.)
