I'm not saying that Disney have decided that boys will go see a new Star Wars movie no matter what, and that female lead characters will bring the women who might otherwise not have...but that would be a smart move on their part.

(Also, three separate women have told me that while they never cared about Star Wars before, they really enjoyed The Force Awakens. Disney are definitely doing something right here.)

Given the look of the main character I wonder if they are teasing out Rey's family history.

My thought too. I had to look twice to be sure that wasn't Daisy Ridley at first.

I'm trying to work out in my head if the timeline works out.

It's unclear how old Rey is (and at what rate people age in their universe.)

Could Rey be a daughter of this woman that the rebels stashed to keep Anakin from killing the woman and her entire family?

Watching the trailer it occurs to me they are going to have to cast someone as anakin and someone as tarkin.

Wonder who?

Mads Mikkelsen is apparently in this movie. But not in the trailer. So Mikkelsen as Tarkin?

And I guess they can put anyone in a Vader suit.

Yep. James Earl Jones is still alive isn't he? They just need the voice.

God, I never thought we'd see Vader again.

Well that looks fucking awesome.

And the sound of a thousand whinging man babies crying out in anguish that Star Wars has another female lead. Brilliant.

I dont know why this is neccesary. I dont even give a shit about real star wars movies anymore, let alone stupid prequels & solo projects. (No pun intended.)

I'm not sure what "necessary" means in the context of "blockbuster Sci-Fi action film". Are any of them _necessary"?

In other news, world hunger is a total crock because I had some cheese and crackers just now.

-- Steve'll take good movies, whatever their provenance, and avoid bad movies, ditto. This one looks like it might be good. (Or fun, at least.)

I seem to be the only person who isn't surprised that this bears no relation to the Force Awakens. I thought it was going to be the next episode.

On the other hand...IT'S EMMA GRUNDY FROM THE ARCHERS!!! The spoof possibilities are endless.

Also a nice crossover with Stephen Hawking.

Naah, we get alternating trilogy parts and flashback movies for the next few years. And then, probably, for the rest of our lives.
