Also, I just realised I lived in Edinburgh for 4 years, used to visit all the time. And I've never been inside the St. James Centre...

You're not missing much. John Lewis is kinda nice. But other than that it's a bit of a dump. (For the next two months. Then it's a building site for four years.)

Wait, 4 years? Jesus pissing in a bucket, do they have to ship the Golden Jobbie in from Timbuktu by the Spice Route?

Sounds like New Street in Birmingham. I get the impression Brummies don't like things being completed.

18 months to tear it down, apparently. Not sure why that ttakes that long.

It does have a selection of shops that don't have a nearby equivalent though, so it kinda sucks for people who live near it and actually shop there (and aren't excited by the prospect of brand new high end stores in a few years time)

For Sports Direct you'll have to go to Newcraighall, Burton and the female equivalent next to it don't have other central Edinburgh branches, same with Officers Club, Tiger and Garage afaik. Poundland you have to go to Nicholson Street or Meadowbank. Superdrug, Boots, River Island, Next and JD Sport you only have to go to Princes St though.

So yeah, it might be a dump but it's a dump where a large part of the population can afford the things sold there!

Oh yes. It's very functional. And central Edinburgh definitely has a lack of decent basic shops.
