We have some of the stupidity about pseudoephedrine over here as well. I have for years made a point of not buying phenylephrine because it doesn't work; the useless stuff is only "popular" because so many cold remedies contain it.

Yup! You can still get the good stuff over the counter, I believe.

My money is still on a daily steam and my steroid nasal spray.

Um...I think I am lacking the necessary attributes?

Yes, though they won't sell you more than 12 capsules at a time, for Reasons. As the maximum dosage is (I think) 3 per day, this doesn't last very long.

I like to hope my colds won't last much longer than that. If they do I shall command my wife to venture forth and bring home the good drugs. :-)

(Oh, and for the life of me I can't see what you changed in your comment?)

You can. It should be borne in mind that needing it for it on-label purpose sometimes means shuffling into the pharmacy disorientated, red-eyed and sniffling constantly.

And then they'll sell it to you but won't look you in the eye.

I once looked at a colleague's cold remedy, saw the phenylephrine and said "Useless. Take this." and that was how I converted the entire test team to pseudoephedrine. (I have chronic rhinitis interspersed with bouts of sinusitis. Pseudoephedrine is sometimes the only thing that allows me to function.)

Yes, but they give you weird looks when you ask for it.
