I was recently reading "The Brick Moon" on Gutenberg and it had an aside about a financial whizkid brought in to save a failing railroad by its creditors. His masterstroke, intended to increase passenger numbers was to announce that infant children would be carried at triple the regular adult fare. The resulting change in fortunes of the railroad paid for a substantial part of the Brick Moon project.
