Having a quiet New Year

Dec 31, 2014 20:41

We went to Burntisland this afternoon, over the Forth Rail Bridge, looking past the Forth Road Bridge to see the half-built Queensferry Crossing. We spent the afternoon with lizzie-and-ari (-and-Dora), discussing babies, and family, and Christmas, and life in all its wonderful and terrible facets. It was really nice, and thoroughly relaxing.

And then we caught a train back to Edinburgh - one of the last ones, because the very final train left at 20:36, after which Scotrail is effectively shut down until the 2nd. Which is a shame, as we'd have loved to stay later (or to see the fireworks from their beach), but with the buses and trains all shut down not really possible.

And now we're back in Edinburgh, and probably just going to have a quiet evening in. The main people who organised gatherings in previous years are in Dundee, or Australia, or Bangalore, or New Zealand. And although I'm very happy for them, I miss all of them, all the same.

This has been a tiring year, so in some ways it feels fitting to see it out feeling tired, and a little overstretched. And hopeful that next year will be better than this one. And that I might have a little more energy.

I hope that 2015 is a good year for all of you, and that wherever you are right now, you are with people you care about. And if not, then I hope that 2015 changes this for the better.
