Interesting take on Aliens. Hadn't really consciously thought of it that way, but it makes perfect sense and is a smart piece of writing.

It's a good piece. Not sure it's the absolute best, but it does make very good use of technology.

(And actually, plays off interestingly against Avatar, where the "good guys" all have built in USB and are clearly connected to a planet-sized supercomputer.)

Is there a James Cameron film that isn't about technology and generally the failure of technology in some way. Even Titanic is about the technology of ship building.

He does like his technology a lot.

And yeah, hubris comes in all over the place.

There are plenty of directors making movies with more CGI than George Lucas, but generally their films tend to be a bit crap (Michael Bay I'm looking at you). Is there any director who uses genuinely ground-breaking special effects better than James Cameron? Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator, Terminator 2, Titanic. All used ground-breaking special effects and all are pretty good films.

OK there's Avatar which falls into the pretty to look at but a bit shit category, but generally he seems to manage to make something decent.
