In this case, she's three books into the Mortal Instruments series, and she thought that it was all available for her to chew her way through.

I have the same problem, which is why I refuse to start A Song of Ice and Fire. Also, I would need to weightlifting practice to read the later books.

I only started ASOIAF because I was watching Game of Thrones, and once I'd seen season 1 I wanted to know more details.

And this is exactly why I have an ebook reader (Well, Neal Stephenson, but similar)

Silly. Mortal Instruments is a beautiful trilogy of YA books that is perfect and complete.

The fact that there's another trilogy that follows it, and that isn't finished yet, is something that we Just Don't Think About. Let's leave Jace and Clary Happy Ever After at the ball.

Wikipedia doesn't admit to it being two trilogies, but there's such a natural break point after the third book (although there's clearly the 'this is what the next trilogy is going to be about' set up) that I find it hard to think of it as anything but that.
