Rats. I was really hoping for a Thrawn movie.

I also would have liked to see the arch that makes Luke both a Sith and the Emperor (cant' remember the name of that series.)

I haven't read the Thrawn books, but I suspect we'd need a trilogy, at least, to cover that much text :->

But isn't VII through IX supposed to be a trilogy?

Doesn't rule out a Thrawn trilogy, just means it can be any story they want to tell, and doesn't need to feel it ties into or follows the books. They still have the opportunity to use any EU stuff, but they can ignore it completely if they want to. Which, y'know, we already knew, I don't actually see this is a change in any way.

My thought is that it does rule out a Thrawn trilogy since what I think they are really saying is "Hey, if we use any ideas in the expanded universe, we'd probably have to pay people for those ideas and we don't feel like doing so."

I'm pretty sure, but not 100% certain, that they own all the rights, there was some complex dealing with the books but it was part of the contract that the rights to all creations would revert to Lucasfilm and thus could be used in other books/projects/etc. Media companies in general learnt from the fuckups of the earlier era, especally say, Doctor Who,w here they still pay out for the right to use the Daleks to the estate of the first writer.
