re the Dogecoin heist: it's all "we're an anarco-syndicalist libertarian non-governmental self-organising movement" until someone gets robbed, then it's "OMG why aren't the cops doing their job!!"

Pshaw.

Looking for a reason to give up on humanity? Study climate change.

Yes.

Mine could probably be covered by:
Soil is amazing stuff that can lock up lots of toxins but you really don't want to play football barefoot in the Alto Plano desert in Chile.

Mine can be summarised as:
Killing nearby wildlife to reduce livestock disease is a tricksy affair and there are many ways you might end up inadvertently making things worse (as demonstrated by maths!).

And I assume trying to get Defra to take any notice of the science was as successful as trying to get IPCC reports to be more science than politics? So glad I don't work in environmental and agricultural sciences any more!

I remember speaking to a Defra spokesman after a presentation to the maths department about communicating science to the pubic, where he talked about how the science justified the cull. When I pointed out that the science from the RBCT in fact did not justify it, he said something along the lines of "we can't sit around for the next 10 years waiting for the science to justify the action we want to take".

Let's just say I was not at all impressed.

Nice way to get around some of the ethical aspects of cloning - just print up a new body and do a brain transplant. Preferably before the new body starts talking...
