The Economist e cig article is about the best any mainstream media has managed so far from a users perspective. Looks like some journalists can still do proper research and come to a reasoned conclusion. Not like The One Show last week and The Wright stuff this week (TV as there are just too many ill-researched newspaper/magazine articles to pick from).

Good news for us vapers (but we can't celibrate yet) is the EU position on e cigs in the Tobacco Product Directive revision appears to be slowly changing. In the last talk about it they have gone from we're going to want to license them as a medicine to we may need to look at this further.

The e cig community will hopefully keep the pressure on by more letters to MEPs and force feeding them information from well respected experts who have supported e cigs and have no affiliations. The original draft basically relied on reports from puritanical anti smoking experts and those funded by the pharma companies hence the huge disinformation bandied about.

EDIT: tobacco was the intended target for the revision and we were fallout since they had trouble separating nicotine from tobacco partly due to the aforementioned puritanical antz. They even mentioned they had thought the big fight would be plain cig packaging not fuss over e cigs.
