The most interesting thing in that prometheus article are all the commentators who think Vickers is transgendered.

It actually makes a huge amount of sense.

Why does it make sense?

The healing couch being set for someone with male DNA, her father's weird disappointment with her. The lack of the details from the sex scene that everyone wanted to see, her father taking her out of the line of succession for the firm itself, etc...

Surely the healing couch was set up for male DNA because it was set up for her father in the first place? It was only installed because he was secretly along for the ride.

That's what we all assumed because we come from a cis based culture.

But... what if it was set male because both she and her father are genetically male?

One can have a poor relationship with ones parents for any number of reasons. And I thought the healing couch was for her father.

I dunno, I'm not saying it isn't a valid reading, I just think it's a bit of a leap.

I'm not saying it's not a leap, just that there is nothing I can think of in the film that would go against that interpretation.

And, the people who are calling the transgendered people crazy for reading the film this way really don't have a leg to stand on.

If anything it's more sensible then the "Vickers is a robot" theory that has been banging around forever.

I don't see any particular evidence against it, so I'm happy to not argue about people seeing it that way :->

My feeling as well.

It actually takes less work to read the film this way then to read "Space Jesus" into the film.

...Space Jesus?

No, no I don't want to know.

I never gave this movie a second thought after seeing it, so I haven't heard that interpretation, and don't see where that theory comes from either. But then, nor have I seen anyone calling anyone crazy for this.

- This maybe because when I went to look at the comments after your comment, I found the Io9 comments system pretty much unreadable, so maybe it's in there.

No, there's nothing to go against that interpretation, but there's plenty of movies in which any character could be transgendered, because there's plenty of movies in which gender at birth isn't a plot point. (Including Prometheus.)

Anyway, I was just curious to see if I'd missed something in the movie. I guess it's just a different interpretation.
