That's not a roundabout. It's not even two. It's a very very short road that goes in a loop, and has a roundabout at each of its intersections.

One of the reasons that they work, as the article hints, is that people are so terrified of them that they slow down and tackle them v e r y s l o w l y. If there were a lot more, and were encountered regularly by drivers that effect would probably even out and make them less effective.

I know that, having navigated my partner round the Hemel Hempstead one, we are likely to go miles out of our way to avoid it in future.

I still consider Dupont Circle in Washington, DC as the worst and most confusing traffic circle ever. Stoplights, nothing fucking labelled, Metro buses. That one linked is intimidating, but it at least functions the way it's supposed to.
