Good Lord, that's a lot of links.

Serves me right for clearing a backlog!

Ye gods, an artist giving away all of his material for free? That pretty much shags every other manga artist struggling to make a living, publishers will flock to the free stuff, and it will drive the value of every other manga artist down towards zero.

There's plenty of free stuff out there already that's covered by Creative Commons licenses. This particular artist just happens to be successful already. If Stephen King made all of his work available free that would put Neal Stephenson out of business.

Yeah. I'm just very twitchy about artists giving stuff away for free, because, much like everything else, the internet continues to drive the value of everything down towards zero.

They're only giving away the right to adapt the work. You can't reprint it for free, and if you wanted to produce a spin-off you'd have to pay someone to write it/draw it, unless you could persuade them to spend their time for free.

I was thinking about house security the other day in the light of the Charlie Stross casual Panoptican society made from Raspberry Pi. A couple of video camera in every room linked to a facial recognition database that calls the police if it sees anyone in your house that it doesn’t recognise as a friend. The effect this would have on burglarly would be interesting. Difficult to see how you could make money doing burglaries if the police were on their way within a few minutes of you entering the house.

So, thinking about the bike problem, I wonder if the answer is to embed a small GPS tracker in each bike. Or a small local wi-fi tracker that tri-angulates from a couple of nearby wi-fi sources. If it finds it’s being moved it phones you. “Help, Master, I am being stolen.” You can then notify the police who will be able to track the bike through the local wi-fi network.

Truly we live in an age of wonder.

£100 quid to protect a couple of grands worth of bike sounds like a good deal.

I reckon it would need to be a tenner or less for me to buy one for my bike.

Alas I can't fit the headset sort to my bike. Maybe if they get the light-type in stock I'll get one.

I’m amazed Nicola Beneditti can even play the violin without her beaky nose and extraordinary tits gettting in the way.
