I wonder how much of the self harm and drug abuse in adult women with ADHD is related to the way ADHD is treated when you are a child.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid - though it was called hyperactivity disorder at the time - and was put on ritalin for years - which is essentially cocaine lite.

Then as an adult they tried Adderall on me, which might as well be cocaine. No surprise at all, I would guess that when they decided I no longer had ADHD and took me off of meds that a few years later someoen offered me cocaine, I tried it and was like "this is what I've been missing! yay cocaine!!!"

And, when you are coming off of any speed based drug, be it ritalin, adderall, meth or cocaine there are very often self harming thoughts/depression that are part of the come down process.

Plus, when taken off speed you immediately start to gain weight - I never had a beer belly until I quit cocaine. How many eating disorders in women happen, do you think, when they are taken off of ritalin at age 15 and suddenly start to gain weight for the first time in their lives?

I wonder if childhood/adolescent ADHD and adult Borderline Personality Disorder are correlated. Self harm and impulsivity are characteristic BPD indicators.
