FROM
DEAN:
Nikki and I would like to you invite you to the book launch of Philippine Speculative Fiction III. It will be on December 8 at 4PM at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street - just head on down the basement theater.
The anthology, third in an annual series, showcases the literature of the imagination from Filipino writers living in the Philippines and abroad. We made sure to select wonderful pieces of fantasy, science fiction, horror and other things in between, and are certain you will find something to your taste.
PSF III's roster of writers includes first time authors as well as more established ones - and we had the toughest time determining the final table of contents (and had to pass on a number of excellent pieces which we are sure will have no problem finding a home in a magazine or another anthology).

Yep--it's gonna be a lovely launch. Philippine Speculative Fiction III is edited by Dean and Nikki Alfar, and is the 3rd volume in the annual series. (This one's gonna be my 3rd short story publication for the year--Yay!) Can't wait to read all the stories--those are some interesting titles right there, typed next to lots of cool authors, who I can't wait to meet. Drop by and join the fun! :D
A NOTE ON MY LAST POST : The ANC Interview was suddenly rescheduled (much to BC's and my consternation) due to more news coming in about the Trillianes' "Let's stage a coup in protest to the law prosecuting my coup" hijinks of last week. Will announce when our Fully Booked talk thing'll come out, but happily enough, the rescheduling sucked out a lot of the time stress out of my Monday.
SCIENCE-FICTIONING: Our next Litcritters deadline (for the regular short story challenge part of the program) is this Friday, December 7, and this time, the challenge is to write a plotty story over 4,000 words. The additional challenge for core Litcritters is this: make it science fiction. --Which is making me quake in my boots, because the two stories I've been working on--"Dogs of Reason" and "Murderhead"--are refusing to cooperate. "Dogs" is sci-fi, but it's turning out to be one of those plot-lite stories with a mindscape-ridden narrative, and "Murderhead", while plotty, isn't the least bit sci-fi (and inconvertible--it's surrealist.) Urgh.
So I've decided work on a NEW story, the specifics of which are uncertain. But it must be sci-fi. And plotty.
I swear, the stress of this challenge is terrible. Then again, it's one of those exercises that keep me on my toes. There hasn't been a challenge yet where I haven't learned new things about writing prose fiction. I hope I hope this one turns out well.
