Last night I went to a really excellent gig with Sarah Linsley and her friend Mike. First up was the Hope Of The States-esque six piece The Fallout Trust. They were excellent, much better than the 3rd billing and 25 member audience would suggest. Their most notable features were the sexy female violinist/keyboard player and a lead singer who dances like he's having an epileptic fit.
The second band were the dance/funk band Tom Vek. They were pretty good, with some real toe tapping tunes though I did think that they could do with some more variety in their set.
The final band were the Engineers. These guys obviously aren't a live act, I can imagine that if they have a decent producer to produce their album then it will be brilliant but they really failed to inspire me. They're all very talented musicians but the atmospheric emo that they were playing really didn't work in the dingy depths of Fibbers. The fact that they were just insanely loud didn't help. As usual I was wearing my ear plugs, but even then they were still only just bearable... and I have no idea what any of the songs were about.
