Argh!

Kopete's MSN plugin seems to have stopped working. No error message, it just doesn't connect :-(

It's not just me, another guy here in PhD land has exactly the same problem.

Suggestions anyone?

Kopete's completely lost MSN, even the CVS version has lost it. This bug report is tracking the problem.

Gaim is working, as is my Jabber-MSN transport. Feel free to create an @winsper.org.uk Jabber account if you want a temporary work-around in Kopete. You'll have to register with the MSN transport, but it's pretty straight-forward.

Grrr! I was in the middle of compiling kopete 0.8 beta 1. But if that's not going to work then I guess I'll stop.

The Gaim installed here is horribly outdated and won't work with MSN.

I might try jabber...

There's a newer version of Gaim in group, largely by my request.

I've been tracking the bug and a fix has been committed to CVS - it may be backported to 0.7.x in the future. The Power of Open Source Software!

It does mean I'll need to recompile Kopete which annoyingly seems to take ages given what it is...

I think I might stick with Jabber for a bit until the fix is properly sorted out...

Have the evil MS machine put their crappy no-non-certified-clients-encryption nastyness on?

That was enabled on the 15th October - most other clients had already cracked the new protcol so that didn't affect many people (provided you upgraded of course).

Today it seems that a bored Microsoft engineer decided to modify the server so it no longers accepts a command Kopete uses.
