Jazz and Jambalaya

Back from the Big Easy.

Allow me to start off with Last Thursday. Darcy, Carol, Ben, Jason and I celebrated my 22nd birthday in proper fashion. We chilled and drank outside at the Cafe since it was actually nice out for once. We then danced and observed some old picachu men get down on it. I drank more than I planned on and ended up passing out with lime tortilla chips in hand on my couch. Thank you all for making my 22nd B-day memorable :)

Pat picked me up around 5 am in order to finish packing and depart for our adventure to New Orleans. We made it to the the airport with plenty of time and even met his mom for lunch. As we were about to board the plane the bia ticket agent lady said - I quote, "I can not let you on this airplane dressed like that." Apparently terrycloth skirts and flip-flops are not to be worn on airplanes if you may be flying first class??? To make a long story short - we missed the flight, had to go buy shoes, and finally after a day of stressful flying and tears we made it to New Orleans at around 11 pm.

Being exhausted from our day of travel and little sleep the night before we decided to just check in to our hotel. We sayed at the Hyatt and it was amazing for the price we paid for it. We were on the 17th floor and 3 out of the 4 walls were giant windows that overlooked the whole city :)

Saturday we got up early and ventured out. We walked to Bourbon Street to check out the scene. It was crazy and there were drunk people out even at noon. We ate at a cute cajun/bbq place and then went back to the hotel to rest up for the evening.

We decided to take the street car to a mexican resturant - it was good minus the mole. We then went back to the French Quarter to begin our night. The first place we went to had an annoying DJ so we chugged our drinks and left. We then walked a couple feet and stopped in to hear a band. They were alright but we again chugged and left. The next destination is perhaps my favorite place of the whole trip - Maison Bour something, dedicated to the preservation of Jazz. It was amazing - we got to hear really old musicians play beautiful jazz music`- It really captured the essence of the city. Next we went to another bar and heard a woman sing the blues. Then we ended up at an old german looking tavern with an old german band. Finally we hit up some strip clubs, got a couple daquiries for the cab ride home and made it back around 4ish. We rented 40 dollars worth of movie and passed out. P.S. the bars never close there - people were still going strong even when we left at 4.

Sunday we slept in till 12 :) Then we took the Street Car down to the Riverfront. We went to the French Market which was another highlight. I bought a couple of voodoo dolls for myself and the roomates so you better not get on my bad side ;) Then we went to a restaurant called Fiorella's Cafe. It was my favorite place we ate - I got some fab fried shrimp. After that we ventured to Cafe Du Monde where I was introduced to the Beignet. We saw St. Louis Catherdral and the Mississipi Riverboat. We ended our night with a street car ride to the Garden District to look at all the beautiful mansions. We had to call it a somewhat early night nice we had to be up at 4 to catch our flight home.

In conclusion, I had an incredible weekend and didn't want to return home. I recommend visiting there at least once - though you'll most likely want to go back, as I know I do. I have to thank Pat for taking me to such a wonderful place - Im very greatful for everything you do for me - more than words can say :)

P.S. I slacked a bit with the picture taking but I managed to take a couple on Sunday. There on my webshots if you'd like to check out the scenery.
