I really doubt it's all Blue Shield's fault. It's much more likely that your employer decided to switch to a "cheaper" plan - for them. Your employer pays less, you pay more...and Blue Shield probably only gets a little more, at best (they might even be getting less, just to keep the business). That happens a lot.
Agreed, we need universal health care. I don't think we'll be getting it, though.
I'm afraid I can 100% blame it on Blue Shield, since my plan is an individual one directly through them. In their letter of explanation they even had the nerve to blame part of the increase on subsidizing care for the uninsured, which would be fine, had they not lobbied so hard AGAINST universal healthcare!!!!!

And yes, I'm seriously considering a future somewhere that's more amenable to getting old -- like the UK, Canada or perhaps NZ.
